On Saturday, 25th April 2020, it was reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that Imo State has recorded its first case of coronavirus (COVID-19) Dr. Austin Ikeji said.
The center reported that Nigeria recorded 87 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday in the nation, including the first case recorded in Imo State. The total confirmed cases in Nigeria is brought to 1,182, active cases of the Covid-19 is 925, and the total number of death recorded has increased to 35 while 222 has recovered from the deadly virus.
However, Hope Uzodinma had therefore ordered a total lockdown of the State as part of measures in preventing the dreaded COVID-19 disease from entering the state.
The Secretary of the State Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control, Dr. Austin Ikeji said the health officials in the State has therefore begun getting details and contacts of those who the patient came in contact with.
The governor has therefore ordered the indefinite closure of all markets and also a prohibition of any forms of marriage ceremonies, burial and funeral ceremonies, and all forms of religious worship in churches and mosques were prohibited.
Meanwhile, the United States which has recorded the highest number of deaths (53,070 deaths from 924.865 cases). Italy has the second-highest toll so far with 26,384 deaths out of 195,351 cases, this is followed by Spain (22,902 deaths and 223,759 cases), France (22,614 deaths and 161,488 cases) and the UK with 20,319 fatalities and 148,377 cases.
